Elevating Accessibility: Rutberg Breslow’s Role in Expanding Walkway Tram Operations

At Rutberg Breslow Personal Injury Law, we are more than just advocates for our clients; we are committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our latest collaboration, a partnership that not only supports local infrastructure but also empowers our veterans. Together with Friends of the Walkway and Hudson River Housing’s VetZero program, we’re enhancing the accessibility and operation of the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park’s wheelchair-accessible electric tram.

Expanding Access to the Walkway’s Electric Tram

The Walkway Over the Hudson is a beacon of the Hudson Valley, offering unparalleled views and a unique walking experience above the river. To make this experience accessible to all, including seniors, those with mobility challenges, and individuals with a fear of heights, the Walkway features a free-to-use, wheelchair-accessible electric tram. Thanks to the support from our firm and the partnership with VetZero, we are excited to announce an expansion of the tram’s operational hours. Starting April 5, the tram will run from Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., representing a 25 percent increase in availability from previous seasons.

A Partnership with Purpose

Our involvement in this initiative goes beyond financial support. This partnership is a testament to our belief in the power of community and the importance of accessibility. By working together with Friends of the Walkway and VetZero, we are not only ensuring more people can enjoy the beauty of the Hudson Valley, but we are also providing valuable employment opportunities to local veterans.

VetZero’s mission—to reach zero veteran suicides and homelessness—is one we deeply respect and are proud to support. By providing veterans with part-time positions as tram operators, we are offering them a chance to reengage with the community, gain meaningful employment, and be part of a project that brings joy and accessibility to thousands of visitors each year.

A Season of Reopening and Renewal

The timing of this initiative coincides with the reopening of the East Gate Plaza in Poughkeepsie, the newly renovated West Pavilion in Highland, and the park’s impressive 21-story glass-enclosed elevator at Upper Landing Park. As these facilities welcome visitors once again, our partnership ensures that the tram will be ready to enhance the Walkway experience, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Looking Forward

We believe that community partnerships like this are vital to the health and happiness of our society. They not only provide necessary services and support to those in need but also enrich our collective experience of the beautiful Hudson Valley. We’re proud to stand with Friends of the Walkway and VetZero in this endeavor and look forward to seeing the positive impact our collaboration will have on the community.

We invite everyone to experience the Walkway Over the Hudson and see firsthand the difference this partnership is making. For those interested in learning more about the tram, visiting the Walkway, or finding out how you can support this and other initiatives, please visit walkway.org/tram.

Together, we’re moving forward, making the Hudson Valley more accessible, and supporting our veterans in meaningful ways. At Rutberg Breslow Personal Injury Law, we’re not just here for your legal needs; we’re here to make a difference in the community we call home.
