On Behalf of | Jan 18, 2021 | Slip/Trip & Fall Accidents

A slip and fall accident can leave you with devastating, permanent injuries. You can fall at a number of locations including a store, private house, school or public street and your entire life could change.

If you sustained injuries in a slip and fall incident, you need to take some immediate steps in order to build a personal injury case in your favor.

Seek care for your injuries

Above all, you need to prioritize your health by calling emergency services if necessary and also see your physician so he or she can diagnose and treat your injuries. Medical records and supporting documents play a key role in determining the cause of your injuries for a personal injury lawsuit.

Do not give statements

Avoid speaking with your insurance company or any adjusters from the responsible party’s insurance provider until speaking with legal counsel. You should not take any blame for the accident and at this point, do not blame anyone for the slip and fall. Do not take to social media to air your grievances.

Report the accident

Notify the property owner, landlord or manager of the site where you slipped and fell. Get a statement from them about the accident, if possible and keep a copy of the written account for yourself.

Document all information

Save any shoes or clothing you had on at the time of the accident so you can potentially use it as evidence later on. Document the scene of the slip and fall using pictures and videos.  Journal information such as the way you fell, the date and time of the incident and what you were doing right before the accident. Include the full names and contact information of all potential witnesses of your fall.

Overall, be proactive and save more information about your accident than you think you will need.
